I wish Apple had held out against Java too. Time will eventually kill it, but man it’s painful. Most people just don’t know where that pain is coming from.
Amazing how sniffy these early reviews were. I remember watching the keynote and being so blown away. Like Apple had literally achieved the impossible. It’s like someone invented the first airplane and the reviewers disregard the miracle of people flying and instead complain that the padding on the seats is lacking.
Early reviews were heavily influenced by Windows enthusiasts and tech writers who somehow felt obligated to hold Apple to standards that nobody else was required to meet.
As I remember, Adrian Kingsley-Hughes was one of them. 😉
