Bloomberg interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook focuses on HomePod

Some very interesting questions from Bloomberg’s Emily Chang, including the question of HomePod being able to place a phone call, and whether Apple has retails aspirations (ordering product on your HomePod). The answer seems to be no to both. The approach seems to be, a limited version of Siri for starters, then more and more domains added in over time.

  1. interesting questions from Bloomberg’s Emily Chang

Disagree. More of the same generalized and under informed inquiry.

Chang tells Cook she uses to Echo order paper towels from Amazon and asks “Does [Apple’s entrance into AI speakers] tell us anything about Apple’s aspirations in retail?”

The only tool the press appears to have when comes to technology reporting is a hammer, so everything looks like a nail.

Tim Cook’s not off the hook either, IMHO. I don’t understand why he doesn’t pepper in the fact that today Apple’s already go more AI installed than any other company; Siri’s on X million Macs and on X hundred million iPhones that people have with them nearly all day every day. HomePod represents Apple leveraging and extending Siri’s utility for its install base.

  2. Exactly! Apple is not going to start selling us paper towels. I’m much more interested in Apples AR/VR plans. They’re getting ready to do something big in that area. Maybe next year, probably two years at least though.
