The complete, untold history of Halo

Vice:

Bungie’s story rivals gaming’s most volatile, its marriage to Halo growing steadily uneasy under fatigue, hubris and the weight of blockbuster expectation when it wasn’t at risk of being outright consumed from within. Yet like Master Chief, Halo is defined by a devotion to fight: even when it stumbles, the series manages, valiantly, to up the ante. Xbox just wouldn’t exist without it.

I’m not much of a gamer but Halo was so incredible, I bought an Xbox just so I could play it.

  1. Wow, the Marathon series is barely a footnote.
Without Marathon, Halo would not exist.

  2. I thought the same thing. I played Marathon on a 10BaseT network back in the early 90′

  3. Same here, 1990’s. The network play was amazing, especially for the time. We started with a telephone line network… what was that? phone net or something? It was still pretty decent, a little laggy, but not too bad. Then, finally, we upgraded to 10baseT.

I still remember playing the first Halo and thinking “this is Marathon with better graphics and a new storyline” Since it’s Bungie that made perfect sense of course.
I am just surprised the article didn’t delve into it a bit more.

BTW, it’s available for iPad and works pretty well!
