A large number of hospitals, GPs, and walk-in clinics across England have been locked down by a ransomware attack, reports suggest. There are also some reports of a ransomware attack hitting institutions in Portugal and Spain, with telecoms provider Telefonica apparently hit hard. Further attacks have been reported in Russia, Ukraine, and Taiwan. Batten down the hatches: we might be in the middle of a global ransomware attack.

This can be assumed, as is usual, to be a Windows oriented attack for the vast majority of the damage.

But Windows is CHEAPER!!!… yeah. well…
No doubt. I use a Mac to access my hospital’s medical record system and I use the Citrix extension to connect to the windows only software.

It’s also amazing that I often see Windows xp still installed at hospital terminals. Crazy.
Ach. I see what looks like XP in a lot of places. I try not to think too much about how vulnerable they all are while handling private information.
