Gizmodo:
Every few months, as Apple’s stock price continues to rise and its cash coffers get more and more full, these calls for action crop back up. Just last week, Citigroup listed seven companies it thinks Apple should eye for takeover bids, including usual favorites like Netflix, Tesla, and Disney.
Apple is not a company that makes massive acquisitions, and as its financials continue to prove, it doesn’t need to be. And yet, every few months, articles abound about how Apple should spend its money, always with a focus on big splashy deals.
Many of the companies pundits think Apple should buy are patently ridiculous choices.
But just think of the transaction fees analysts would be able to charge!
“Don’t call me John” Gruber cleverly quipped recently that Apple’s cash was burning a hole in Wall Street’s pockets.
Good on Tim Cook for ignoring all these turkeys.
The only acquisitions that make long-term sense are those that legitimately add value beyond their cost to Apple’s main business and ecosystem.
The only really big ones that would conceivably do this might be one of the carriers themselves, as Apple could turn this into a substantial competitive advantage they don’t yet have and couldn’t get any other way.
Even here though the ROI probably wouldn’t pan out; and I’m not sure regulators would allow it.
Apple is doing just fine, thank you Wall Street. Send me some dividends every quarter, buy back your stock when it makes sense, and spend the rest making the best products you can.
They should buy me.
SpaceX is the best, if not the only relevant choice.
And this is part of why Wall Street calls Apple “overvalued.” Because Cook won’t spread that cash around for them all to roll around in.
They haven’t?
The best non-sequitur for Apple to spend time figuring out how to run it? No.
They should buy Trump Tower

Long-term investors are Wall Street’s kryptonite and will always get the last laugh.
Yep. A lot of what Apple actually does acquire is way above most analysts’ capacity to understand, let alone explain to anyone else.
