Apple nears $800 billion valuation

Apple’s stock is currently trading above the $150 mark for the first time ever, after factoring in a 7-for-1 split in 2014, giving the company a record-high market cap of nearly $790 billion. That means Apple is just over $200 billion away from becoming the world’s first trillion dollar company.

It’s mind boggling to think of that much money.

  1. Meaningless number. And, as the Intercept points out, Tim Cook’s goal is not to pay taxes on any of it. That’s’ why he’s willing to rise millions of dollars and sleep with the Republicans.

  2. Companies don’t pay taxes on their market cap…

It is a largely meaningless number, though.

  3. Mind boggling to think how much money I’d have if I had bought shares in Dec 1997 like I wanted to. Too bad I was a poor college student.

If by near, you mean in the rearview mirror by more than $11 billion, then I can agree with your headline.

  6. what a stupid post. troll trope dreck. Apple is the largest tax payer in the entire country, dur durrr. Were you up in arms when other multi nationals like GE wormed their way out of paying ANYTHING in taxes? they actually gamed themselves a tax credit….but I bet you didn’t care then. amirite?!

  7. Mind boggling to think about that much money… But consider this: The US federal government spent about $3.85 trillion in FY 2016. If the feds suddenly acquired all of Apple’s stock, and used it to pay for regular outlays, they would burn through it all before August.
