My Modern Met:
While the term photography was coined in the early 19th-century, Greek mathematicians had been making pinhole cameras since the 4th century BCE. With such a long history, photography is full of firsts, from the world’s oldest photograph to the first photo uploaded to Instagram.
While most early photos used the daguerreotype process invented by Louis Daguerre, technical inventions have created endless possibilities for photographers. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to learn some of the famous first photographs that have changed how we view the world.
Without looking, guess who the subject of the “First Digital Photo of a President” was. I bet you’ll be surprised.
Their “First Digital Photo of a President” is obviously wrong. It may be the “First Official Digital Portrait of a President” but not first digital photo. There are likely thousands of digital photos taken by normal people in the crowds at events for Bill Clinton and/or George W Bush. Here are at least a couple from various sources: Clinton: http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/president-bill-clinton-and-daughter-chelsea-aboard-americas-news-photo/56052049 and George W Bush: http://www.georgewbushlibrary.smu.edu/Photos-and-Videos/Photo-Galleries/From-the-White-House-Photo-Archive.aspx
I came here to say the same thing. I personally have several photos of George W. Bush from 2007. I wish they’d checked with me first! Like you, I presume they meant to say First Digital Official Portrait.
Yeah, was going to type the same thing. It’s the first official Presidential portrait taken with a digital camera which is a very different thing, especially compared with the other photos on the list.
Regardless, that was a fantastic link Shawn. Thank you!
yep thought the same. weird they got it wrong.
