Apple Watch sales, along with AirPods and Beats headphones have hit Fortune 500 level, which means they’re bringing in over US$5 billion to Apple’s “other products” category. Company CEO Tim Cook shared that detail during the company’s second fiscal quarter earnings report on Tuesday.
I know some people question whether these products are successful or not, but come on, That’s an incredible amount of sales. I vote successful.
Horace Dediu:
“Apple Watch continues to struggle as unit sales more than doubled in six of top 10 markets”

Tim Cook:
“…as you know is the first full quarter of shipments for AirPods, it’s still very much in the ramping mode and we’re not even coming close to satisfying the demand.”
The US alone is ~40% of total revenue and China is ~20% (there’s no product level breakdowns by market). The US alone is more important than five through everything else. It’s very possible that revenue could double in countries 5-10 and overall revenue could be flat or drop.
This is a pretty easy way to obfuscate weakness with numbers that sound impressive at first blush. When I hear “6 or 10,” I want to know how many in the top 5 and top 3.
I think Mr Dediu is doing a little chain yanking. 😉
