Just under three hours after Burger King unveiled a new advertisement designed to hijack your Google Home to read a long-winded description of its Whopper burger, Google has disabled the functionality. It was fun / horrifying while it lasted!

Exactly Jim. I have friends who think this was “brilliant”, i think it was idiotic and will only have a negative PR effect on BK when all is said and done. Granted not as negative as dragging customers of planes, but … 🙂 I joked that BK must use the same ad agency as Pepsi. Poor taste.
And this is why I avoid Google products. Advertisers can never be trusted.
The reason this works for OK Google, but not Hey Siri is that Siri just brings up a Wikipedia page to click on. Alexa says what the Whopper is. So the reason this works for Google is that their service is “more useful”. Not sure why, “Alexa” wasn’t used though.

Speaking of unwanted ads, why can’t Disqus do something about this b.s.? There are keywords galore throughout this crap that could be used to stop the majority of them.
Apple also has some per-voice setup for Hey Siri. I don’t know how good it is, but it wouldn’t have to be very good to make triggering Siri from a TV ad inconsistent.
And why is reporting spam so many steps compared to flagging as inappropriate?
Yes. I guess they want to wash their hands of taking any responsibility at all or any risk of blocking something proper — but these are pretty obvious. I can only see accidentally blocking discussion of them if someone quotes them.
Edit: and being able to un-flag a mistaken inappropriate flag would be nice, too.
