The Unusual Suspect:
In one of the most famous cases of actors turning down roles, Will Smith did just that for the role of Neo in The Matrix. The role instead went to Keanu Reeves and Will Smith went onto do Wild Wild West.
But let’s put on our alternate reality goggles and see what The Matrix would’ve looked like had Will Smith accepted the role of Neo.
I didn’t know Smith had turned down The Matrix. But to turn it down to do the awful “Wild Wild West”? That’s gotta hurt.
This raises an interesting question for me. If Neo and Morpheus were both originally cast for black actors, was there meant to also be an overtone of black civil rights to this movie? The rising-up of a “slave species” against an imperialist, unfeeling overlord of overwhelming technology? Given that the iconic Matrix song is Rage Against The Machine’s “Wake Up”, which is a creed expounding Hoover’s “targets for the suppression of the black nationalist movement” (i.e. Martin Luther King and Malcom X)… I think it might be an avenue of investigation worth examining…

It’s a testament to the replicability of Hollywood product that Smith’s footage and dialog fits in so smoothly here.
Doesn’t look half bad, I must say. Though Keanu Reeves as Neo, as someone already mentioned, is so engraved in my head that seeing another actor play him doesn’t look right.
