The US-UK ban on selected electronic devices from the passenger cabins of flights from some countries in north Africa and the Middle East was partly prompted by a previously undisclosed plot involving explosives hidden in a fake iPad, according to a security source.
When it was sneakers and underwear, they did not ban sneakers and underwear. This seems arbitrary at best.
But they did make everyone toke off their shoes.
This isn’t absurd. They should just ask the person to turn on the device. If it work, it’s fine.
And started installing the nudeogram scanners.
Actually, if they were consistent, you would need to take it out of the bag and scan it separately. Just like laptops, shoes, liquids, etc.
Seems to me it would be a little more difficult to hide explosives/electronics in sneakers than it would in a laptop.
So it’s not OK to have a bomb in the passenger compartment but it’s OK in checked luggage? Security theater at its most bizarre.
I was wondering that, myself. At least I’ll hear the explosion before I feel it?
The article makes the argument that, in the cabin, a hole would be blown open that would suck out passengers. But in the hold, that wouldn’t happen. Truly an amazing argument to make….
