Yves Béhar’s studio Fuseproject has created a television for Samsung that is indistinguishable from a framed artwork when hung on the wall.
The Frame is a smart television that is designed to “disappear in the décor”. It sits flat against the wall and displays artworks when not in use – turning completely off only when nobody is in the room to appreciate them.
This is one of those things you would have thought was blindingly obvious and should have been invented long before now. I’d buy one of these TVs.
Beautiful
If this can also be tilted and angled just a bit, it would be perfect.
This reminds me of how I heard that Bill Gates had LCD screens around the house that displayed various art. http://www.businessinsider.com/19-crazy-facts-about-bill-gates-house-2014-11
It is a great idea. Would it be justice for some other company to copy that idea and try to make more money on it than Samsung will?
I’ve seen that done on a custom basis for years. Here’s a DIY: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-i8Tg_ZzkI Unless the Samsung TV is staggeringly thin, there’s a hole in the wall behind it to manage the mount, cables, etc. It’s well done, though, and the auto on-off feature is interesting, but I wonder how they determine that ‘no one is in the room’??
They’re watching….
(in some ways, they have to be but it doesn’t have to be true video watching. The easy way would be some kind of detector like auto on/off lights use)
I’m not sure what’s special about this. Yes, it’s an actual picture frame but any thin bezel 4K set could be setup to do this. My Apple TV puts out a screensaver now. Set it (or other streamer) to display art and… voila.
LOL Did you read the article? There’s lots more it does that any “thin bezel 4K set” is capable of.
So it watches us more than we watch it?
The paranoid delusional types are gonna love it. 😉
Yeah but most off that is… superfluous. Oh it automatically goes into Art Mode… eh. Adjusting to room lighting is nice. Some of the frames are… neat.
Dont get me wrong, it’s cool. But…eh
“So it watches us more than we watch it?”
Get used to that. 🙂
