LA Times:
There are few cars more iconic than the 1968 Mustang GT that Steve McQueen drove in “Bullitt.”
But that car disappeared shortly after filming for the 1968 movie was completed and, despite the late actor’s attempts to locate and purchase it for his private collection, hasn’t been seen since.
Now a pair of car restorers claim to have found the car — in a scrapyard in Baja California — and brought it back to life. And the country’s most respected Ford authenticator says it’s the real deal.
This is one of the most recognizable cars in film history. While I personally find the film dated and the revered chase scene boring with continuity errors that make me crazy, car and action film buffs love it.

I still enjoy watching the movie. The story line of the political prosecutor at loggerheads with a cop trying to do the job is still in. play today.
But I feel the best chase scene in a movie is in The French Connection. When the Doyle character in a car, is chasing the elevated train the suspect is riding in. That scene was shot without permission and with on warning to the public. Very dangerous and lucky no one was seriously injured.
Agreed! That and “The Seven Ups” had the two best chase scenes of that era.

The utter lack of traffic and pedestrians in San Francisco made the chase seem so unrealistic to me.
My favorite chase was in “Ronin”. A bit over the top, but in a way that made it easier to suspend disbelief that a chase could be sustained for so long WITH that much traffic (and sometimes driving AGAINST it).
