Porsche looks at all-electric SUV, hybrid 911

Porsche may offer an all-electric version of its Macan compact SUV and could turn models such as the iconic 911 into hybrids, its sales chief said on Tuesday, amid a push by parent company Volkswagen to move on from dieselgate.

I understand this is where the industry is going, but there’s just something about the roar of a Porsche engine that gets my heart pumping.

  1. I love Porsche, and its Mission E concept is very intriguing.

But, so far, Tesla products have captured our excitement. We recently test drove a Model X P100D with Ludricous, along with a limited implementation of Autopilot.

I think any competitor—including Porsche—would be hard put to surpass Tesla in overall quality, “ecosphere” of charging stations all over the world, and autonomous driving.

To hell with IC engine roar! This electric is downright thrilling AND very pleasurable to drive.

  2. There is something about a Porsche engine that kills millions of people per year including little kids and old people, gives millions more horrible asthma and other conditions, spills oil all over the environment every single day, subjugates us all underneath an oil cartel that forces us to build pipelines we don’t need through regions that don’t want them, requires a massive military built out of stolen health care and education monies, and oh yeah: may have already damaged the global environment beyond repair so that none of the kids who are alive today will see their kids grow up.

I can also argue this another way:

Today’s Porches are so airtight and climate-controlled, you can barely hear the engine. Porsche and other manufacturers have built noisemakers into the cabin of the cars that play a digital recording of engine noise. Yes. The engine noise you are enjoying is simulated. There is no fucking purpose for the gas engine. We can swap it out for electric and you wouldn’t notice, as long as we leave the noisemakers in. And only a tiny fraction of drivers need more range than electric currently provides, and which is going to double easily by 2020.

So if you buy another gas car, you are a killer. There is no excuse anymore. It is like putting up a building today with asbestos in it. Or deploying a bus that has open sides like a San Francisco cable car (which maim 10 people a year.) We KNOW now. We have alternatives now.

Keep in mind that 2016–2020 will have the same technological progress as 1900–1999. If it is not clear to you today that gas cars are obsolete, it will be in like 6 months.
