BoingBoing:
This looks like a good collection of public domain novels, in Kindle format. I’ve been wanting to read Sister Carrie again, so I got this. It’s volume 1 of a 2 volume set.
There are some great, classic novels in these volumes. You can find volume 2 at the linked URL.
This and similar collections have been available nearly since the dawn of the Internet. The Gutenberg Project was one of the first I remember, and all the information was being hand transcribed and proofed. The advent of quality OCR made a huge difference in the number of books they could share.
These ‘100 Books’ collections are a great selection of historically important novels, though some are a bear to read, as they are, of course, written in the prose style of their era. Since they take up so little space, I have a copy on a number of devices, and can read whenever I have some time to spare.

The prose style is something avid readers can adjust to. Great work often requires an attention span and a reading level that’s somewhat higher than the low standard that many contemporary novels are written for.
What genuinely makes some of these public domain works hard to read—a problem which also afflicts many commercial ebooks which were converted hastily and without cleanup—is sloppy code that makes a hash of punctuation and page/paragraph breaks.
