1. This is cord cutting without cutting the cord. Articles like this miss the point of cord cutting. To me, the whole purpose is to get away from traditional cable-like services. Yet this article recommends Sling, DirectTV Now, and Playstation Vue. Those are just Internet-based cable TV subscriptions. You haven’t cut anything, you’re just using a different cord.

   What my family has done is cut out cable and cable-like subscriptions entirely. We have Internet, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime (since we use the shipping benefits anyway), and HBO Go (it’s a weird bundle that Comcast offers as an add-on to Internet). Even paying separately for each of these gives us more than we can possibly watch at a price lower than the equivalent from a cable provider.

   We also utilize a large antenna connected to an HDHomerun as well as direct to the TVs. The HDHomerun can send the signal to a great Apple TV app called Channels. The article mentions this and I definitely love it.

   Apps we use on Apple TV: Netflix, Hulu, PBS, PBS Kids, HBO Go, Jupiter, YouTube, History (Vikings is free!), UFC ($50/year), Channels, and a handful of others less often. Our TV has Amazon built in for when we watch Prime.
