The fees come into play if you continue to use the Roku in addition to your Comcast set-top box after the beta trial wraps. At that point, Comcast will treat the Roku device like any other “additional outlet.” That additional outlet incurs a $9.95 fee, minus the bring-your-own-device credit of $2.50 for using a Roku, instead of Comcast’s box. This is also how a secondary outlet that connects to Comcast’s network via a TiVo would be charged and credited.
Basically business as usual.
Cool. As someone who just set up this Roku app last night, this means I’ll cancel it as soon as they exit the Beta and want to charge me for it. Jerks.
If only we still had a concept of “public utilities” and their proper role.
You know, it’s interesting but since I have dumped cable TV altogether and only have internet, I use Amazon Prime and Netflix as well as an OTA antenna. At this point I hardly ever watch “real” tv since there are way too many annoying ads. I don’t care about sports so they can’t screw with me that way.
To be honest, if I lost all ability to watch programming, I’d be just fine.
I don’t think I’d mind just reading more.
I work all day, get home and fall asleep, half the time before I’ve actually watched much at all anyway. On weekends, on occasion, I could go out and see a movie at the theater.
Meh. These companies seem to think people actually NEED TV. Far from it.
Any emergencies I can get on my myriad of devices.
You’ve reminded me that I need to set up my OTA rig again.
There are many people who actually do believe they need tv. If only as the always-on idiot voice that tries to convince them of what they’re lacking and what they should be afraid of.
Exactly. Go OUT. See people, engage. We are losing our community. We are missing out on subtle things like a nod or a hint of a smile or even a slight grimace. We are getting too wrapped up in what isn’t instead of what is and what’s out there.
We don’t need tv, in fact it and other things that separate us may be the worst thing that’s ever happened.
Yes, this comes from someone surrounded by technology and loves it and will always be on the cutting edge, which by the way is why I don’t need a standard tv service.
But we can’t lose sight of each other in the process. We certainly can’t let giant corporations make these decisions for us. It seems like they are hoping if they keep this up we won’t see the forest for the trees.
Now with the current fascists taking over america, it’s business as usual at the crony capitalist Drump Industries.
Hey you suckers who voted for these clowns; you think your butts hurt now. You’re in for the ride of your life.
In the end, Comcast could make MORE money but just being a dumb pipe.
Voting with my wallet, nope nope nope. I’ll stay cable-free like the filthy millennial I am.
oye. I did not vote for Trump, but I love or fascist assumptions here. I do not think we should get too political, yet since you jumped on that, “bandwagon” you probably should watch this:
Also, my only request is if the admins delete my post (or “hide it” due to low rating – please do the same with JimCracky’s cranky post.
Clowns in deed. Why is the regressive left so butt hurt?
Yes, yet they are showing how dumb they really are. I wonder if ESPN will weather the storm.
there is nothing filthy about being cable free.
