Change where macOS saves screenshots

Yesterday, we posted a few links to articles on taking screenshots on your Mac and, more specifically, how to eliminate the drop shadow when you take a screen grab of a window.

This morning, Kirk McElhearn wrote a complementary piece showing how to change where your screenshots are saved. Me, I like saving them on my desktop, the easier to drag them into my Twitter client.

  1. Agreed. If I’m not copying the shot to the Clipboard, the Desktop is the most practical place for work that is always being done elsewhere in one of many different client subfolders.

  2. Useful but even more so is to have an Automator script that watches whatever location you save them to and moves them for you. I really wish Automator were easier to use. Things like Hazel make that kind of automation more accessible too, though.

  3. If you have a MBP with a TouchBar you get a nice set of options after you hit the screenshot shortcut key where you can quickly select a Window, Selected Area, or Whole Screen, and a Save To destination such as Desktop, Documents, Clipboard, Preview, Mail, Messages ? Seems to remember the setting too…
