Ars Technica:
Apple raked in $215.6 billion in sales in 2016, but it wasn’t enough to keep the company from reporting its first year-over-year sales decline since 2001. According to the company’s definitive proxy statement filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company’s sales declined from $233.7 billion in 2015, and its operating income likewise fell from $71.2 billion in 2015 to $60.0 billion in 2016. The decline in these two metrics was enough to significantly cut incentive-based pay for Tim Cook and a number of other high-level Apple executives.
Don’t shed a tear. All of them make more in one year, “disappointing” or otherwise, than most of us will see in our lifetimes.
They’ve shown that they suck at this running a company thing.
How’s that Gateway desktop working out for you?
Or, more likely, they’re fine with it, because they all knew this when they signed on in the first place.
I would say Apple sucks at building and selling computers – as I see no computers for sale, at Apple, at all. Now the gadgets are gangbusters, if not a little pricey.
This may not affect the bottom line, much, yet Apple should start building computers again. A MacMiniPro (i5/i7ish), Mac Book Pro that is upgradable RAM/HDD/SSD/etc…, Mac Cube done correctly – maybe not super high volume, yet something one can upgrade later, if they want – or sell to someone else, who may want to build, rebuild or upgrade the computer for their own use.
And WTF, Apple killed srm from 10.12x – yikes. Even when you boot from your FileVault2 encrypted uber SSD, you may still have other drives that are traditional. Come on Apple!
bean counters and production management executives are never visionaries
John Gruber makes a good point… he does see things, fairly clearly – and his website is a good shade of black.

I could be making the case that the loop should not allow people to post – or maybe I’m making the cast that Gruber should allow people to post?!
Pretty well. I’ll be updating to Windows 98 ME as soon as I earn enough money mowing lawns.
