I find the extreme smugness of the Adam character to be so annoying as to be almost unwatchable but this video in particular is interesting if only for the myth busting.
The truth about the McDonald’s hot coffee lawsuit

This seems to be legal profession’s position, which is just as biased as the corporate position the video contests.
The video claims McDonalds reduced their coffee temperatures as a result of the lawsuit. This may be true at that particular location, but as of 2009 corporate policy was to serve coffee at 85 degrees Celsius plus or minus 5 degrees (176-194 F). This is inline with coffee industry recommendations.
Great sketch art.
why would you even have a human monitor such things?
see page 20 from the actual machine manual.
“TANK TOO HOT COOLING NOW”
checks to see if temp is between 130 and 170F

I think the temperature range you refer to is BREW..
see page 18
Adjusts brew tank temperature.
RANGE: (185 to 205° F)
brew needs to stay close to the same in order to make proper coffee. storage you can play with a little. maybe the tank was set for the brew range prior to 09

What about the donuts?
That appears to just be a calibration procedure for detecting and compensating for lime scale. It lowers the water tank temperature from the brew setting to the lower temperature to do the calibration. It doesn’t have anything to do with serving temperature as far as I can tell.
lime scale? lime is dissolved in water. when the water is gone, the lime remains.. how does “waiting to cool” mitigate lime (scientifically)?
Lime and other mineral build up limits the flow, so the procedure your referenced lets you calculate the actual flow the unit is getting and then enter that in so the unit will adjust brew times accordingly.
