id respect ifixit more if they didn’t try to put a negative spin on apple gear. like who serious does headphone repairs at home? when has such a thing ever been discussed in consumer electronics before?
If I could up vote this 1000 times, I would! (I guess I just did)
Having attempted to fix a broken sleep button on my Iphone this weekend, I can attest that the only people with any business trying to do anything more than replace the battery in their phone are watchmakers. Trying to finesse parts that are so small you can barely pick them up is a fools’ errand.
And the airpods are even tinier. Apple must have staffed a factory entirely with miniaturized robots, or else hired a bunch of hobbits to run the assembly line. Nobody in their right mind is going to even dream of trying to fix them. Sadly, it seems that Ifixit is not run by people in their right minds.
Funny, I just read Ars Technica’s take on iFixit’s tear down and it bemoaned the inability to do your own repairs. It was such a dopey article.
Yet like the headline above says, they are a true engineering marvel.
