Trump speaks to Silicon Vally executives

President-elect Donald Trump and some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful executives met at his Manhattan tower on Wednesday, a summit convened to smooth over frictions after both sides made no secret of their disdain for each other during the election campaign.

I find it very odd that Trump’s three kids were at the head of the table.

  1. Trump is a strong believer in nepotism, so having his kids there reaffirms this.

There’s always going to be nepotism — whether it’s friendship nepotism or whether it’s children nepotism. You know, that’s the way the world works. – Trump, 2004

I also heard The Donald repeat this again, in a similar vein, at a real estate keynote I attended in NY in like 2007.

  2. I enjoy how triggered people get about Trump’s kids. I think he did it just to make liberals heads explode. (which is all too easy these days)

  3. Odd is a kind way of putting it. In places like Korea you have to give the presidency up when you involve unelected people in the political process. In today’s USA you can be president without even the qualifications required to run a hot dog stand, involve your mail order bride and a bunch of American Psychos that have never been elected into decision making while giving all legislative power to people who own the place anyhow… And we have seen nothing yet. “Fuck (you) dynasty” is just getting started.

  4. Anyone who finds it odd that Trump’s children attended the meeting really need to familiarize themselves with what’s going on in the world. They work for him in his businesses. They worked for him in the campaign. They have been working for him during the transition. It’s just ignorant to expect them not to attend this meeting too.

  5. While it is true they have been with him all along the way, they are being labeled as independents who can run his business interests in isolation. He is trying to have it both ways, have them do his work politically and in business.

There are also government rules against nepotism for a reason.

  6. It feels a little like bringing your mommy to a job interview. Maybe that’s OK for some people, but others might want a stronger leader (or at least a less nepotistic one).

  7. It’s obvious why he’s doing it, they’re getting an inside track on geopolitics to the benefit of the family business. His “blind trust” is gonna be run out of the flotus office in the East Wing. It’s not just liberals that are concerned about the extreme conflicts of interest that this arrangement implies. But you know, the stupid liberals path is the easy way out of any serious conversation these days right?

  8. Isolation my ass. Ivanka sat in on his meeting with Abe nearly a month ago, and it hasn’t changed since.

  9. Well, there’s precedent. When Bill Clinton became president, he put his unelected wife in charge of healthcare reform — which is a lot more than just letting them sit at the table. The best thing about having family present is that they’re the only people who probably aren’t trying to play a double game against you. (And honestly, I’d say Trump’s family are more reliable from his standpoint than Hillary might have been from Bill’s, considering he was pursuing infidelities that she was almost certainly aware of) (But that relationship had enough pathologies and secondary agendas in it that neither of us can really say).

  10. “I find it very odd that Trump’s three kids were at the head of the table.”

How much is it worth to the Trump family to have access to biggest tech CEO’s in America? That’s why the kidlets are there.

  11. why is that odd? it’s old tradition for dictators/oligarchs/absolutistic rulers to bring their children (until they try to ursurp the throne).

  12. Wonder if we were told they would run his assets without him, but it was “forgotten” to say that he would run his administration with them.

  13. At some point he has to demonstrate they are separate. He’s not signaling that. I rather expect that their public appearances are carefully planned test balloons to see public reaction and to condition folks to realizing things are not separate.

This fits to his statement “people knew I run a business before they elected me. They don’t care.”

  14. Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution, which says no holder of public office can “without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state”.

  15. Clinton’s business was in a blind trust, it was not being run by Hillary. The children are not the issue, it’s that Trump has claimed they are the neutral body that he’s leaving his business in the hands of while he runs the White House.

  16. Trump his children and the incoming administration are a threat to American society. They can all go to hell.

    Resist.

  17. it’s not ignorant — he’s supposed to separate his business from running the country, thus it makes fuck-all sense that his business/family is at a presidential meeting. get it?

  18. Not odd at all. He has no clue when it comes to technology other than Twitter lets him do things at 3am that he shouldn’t. His kids are there to translate English into demagogue.

  19. Donald Trump has said multiple times that rules don’t apply to him.

That was a slip-up, telling the truth. Probably the only time he had told the truth when what was coming out of his mouth wasn’t depraved, intentional, and completely without reason.

  20. This is going to trip him up corruption wise, probably fairly soon. Lots of people want the job he will soon have. Let the stabbings begin.
