Part of today’s reveal were three new videos that showed off the brand new MacBook Pro. Take a look.
From top to bottom, we’ve got Reveal, which takes the Mac laptop through 25 years of design. Next up is the Jony Ive narrated design video. And finally, there’s the new So much to touch MacBook Pro ad.
Enjoy.
seems like a serious mistake to me to charge as much as they are, and to make customer accept last year’s processors after making those same customers wait for more than a year for this upgrade.
I, for one, bought a windows machine months ago, since I mostly use my home computer for gaming. First non-mac computer in 10+years. Now I feel COMPLETELY justified for doing so. The super-snazzy fake button function bar is absolutely not worth $400 additional price tag.
“I’ve been an Apple fan for years, but I just couldn’t….”
Good for you. This machine is not targeted at you anyway.
Pros who use their systems for more than games understand that superficial spec comparisons to Windows machines are a red herring. The real differentiator is macOS. That you get best of class industrial design and cool features like the touch panel are just a cool bonus.
The new Kaby Lake processors are just now shipping and at the higher end, like the Macbook Pro uses, don’t really have a performance improvement.
I’d love a loaded 13″ but the price… guess I’ll start really saving now! And pray my Air makes it to that time, it’s starting to feel a little slow but still capable..
My only whine ? is I’d like the option for 32gb ram. ?
By my calcs if I don’t drink any beer for about 170 days I’ll have it soon enough but but beer but
That wasn’t the point. The point was that there are some of us that have been waiting for this computer for well over a year. I would have bought the previous generation 15″ rMBP if it had been updated with a new processor like the 13″ had been in 2015.
If Apple wasn’t waiting for the Skylake with iris pro 580, then why the bleep didn’t they update the dang processor back in 2015? I would have bought one.
I appreciate your comment, but respectfully disagree. The rMBP machine is targeted at prosumers, which include folks like me – an engineer by day and gamer by night. (If you doubt me, go look at the pictures of Mission Control at JPL when Curiosity landed on Mars – the bulk of the computers there were MBPs.) The rMBP is (or was) directly targeted at people like me, folks who would like to use one computer, not two, and are willing to give up a little bit of performance in gaming to be able to use macOS.
Thankfully, I have found Windows 10 to be an adequate replacement. Not only can I play my games at top resolution, but more of the professional tools I need are available. Amazingly, those tools “just work” way better than they do on the macOS system.
The MBP was updated in May 2015 with the latest mobile quad-core chip Intel was shipping (the MBP uses the high end of Intel’s line which is often released later than the lower end chips). So it’s been a 18 months, which seems reasonable to me. They are also using the new Radeon Pro discrete graphics card.
Correct for the 13″. The 15″ did not receive a new processor. See: https://www.cnet.com/products/apple-macbook-pro-15-inch-2015/
“But arguably the most important component upgrade is missing, as the Core i7 CPU here is the same as last year’s model” i.e., the 2014 Haswell 4770HQ released on July 29th, 2014.
Also see wikipedia and macrumors and whatever other site you want to. The fact is that the 15″ has received only VERY minor upgrades since July 2014, 27 months ago. And it was considered expensive even then, BEFORE a $400 price hike despite using a CPU released in 2015…
