The rollout of Google Fiber will be paused in Chicago, Dallas, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, San Jose, and Tampa, Dilts added.
It will continue in places where it is already active, so existing customers needn’t worry. It will be interesting to see how AT&T’s fiber project reacts to this.
Damn, that sucks
Google Fiber is one Google service just about everyone loves and would love to have. I just wish Google wasn’t so wishy washy.
It’s a sad day for people who were hoping for better wireline service.
Well I guess I better start looking for alternatives. I love the service, but if they can’t commit to continue bringing it to new markets, how can I be sure they will commit to continuing to support those who already have it?
It will continue in places where it is already active…good luck with that.
They’ll sell off the existing business within 12 months. If the head of the Fiber business is out, this is a business they don’t want to support.
A new entry for the Google Abandoned Projects Museum.
The business will continue with wireless.
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that AT&T’s fiber project will react by raising prices.
Don’t sell AT&T short. They’ll also reduce service.
abandonware.
I guess Google just doesn’t have enough money to do it anymore. If only they weren’t so broke.
