I still love the iPod Classic and bought a 160 GB 7th Gen for my son just before Apple canned it in 2014. He loves it.
I couldn’t afford this device when it first appeared, but its success is what finally convinced me that Apple had indeed turned the ship around. A coworker gave me one of these, having long since stopped using it, and I treasure it.
I remember being at the department of motor vehicles waiting in line and glancing up to one of the screens and seeing the iTunes top 10. I couldn’t believe Apple was getting that big. An amusing memory when I think of them today.
I still have a “Classic” click wheel 5th generation iPod connected to a radio, it works fine to this day. With all the little hairline cracks on the screen and all. Amazingly they still sell for about $100 today.
Tough little mofos.
Still have an original FireWire iPod. I had bought an Archos which turned out to be a piece of crap, skipped all the time. Wanted to return it to Best Buy for another one but I had bought it on sale and they told me to exchange it would cost me the difference in price. I told them to just keep it and give me a refund and waited for iPod to come out. Thank you Best Buy for that insane exchange policy. This was a great example of Apple not being first but being best.
