The all-new Apple Music

I wish Apple would stop trying to do comedy. I really wish they’d stop trying to do comedy with James Corden.

  1. Having James there just shows how un-funny the Apple execs are. Even Boz comes over as totally wooden. Leave comedy to the pros next time!

  2. I actually really liked this one. Thought it was really funny; certainly funnier than past attempts by Apple. And I’m not a Corden fan (although he does strike me as really ‘likable’).

  3. I hate to say it but …

Apple REALLY shouldn’t have done this commercial. It is lazy. Commercials where the advertisement is aware that you’re jaded to the fact that you’re being advertised to are so over played.

  4. Yeah because James Corden is so unfunny? It’s not as if he’s in one of the most viral YouTube series around right now either.

Maybe you just don’t find things funny?

  5. So glad Apple didn’t consult the sad lot of commenters here before they had some fun with this ad!

  6. When I read Shawn King’s article here, and read the comments, I’m “hearing with both ears.” With one ear I hear what you guys are saying, and with the other I hear what you are saying about yourselves. Those who think it’s a bad idea for Apple to try and learn about comedy are suggesting that there’s something at stake here. What might that be? Apple’s perfect reputation that shall go untarnished? What is triggering the negative reaction from you guys? hmmmm

  7. Everyone seems to think they know advertising better than Apple; the same way they know innovation and product design better.

  8. I thought it was okay, a few funny moments (Why don’t you give him water?) Interesting that Apple executives are in an ad. Regardless of their role.

If I were doing an ad, this would not be it, but compared to the absolute crap coming from Samsung? Nicely understated. Not to mention unexploded.

  9. I like this but I actually like all the “fake” commercials within it more. Why not run those as full ads? They’re pretty funny. Corden as all five Spice Girls? Do it.

  10. One second of James as the spice girls is funny. 30 seconds would be painful. The clever bit is the number of familiar artist names they cram into the ad. But overall the ad hews to close to talking points to feel like a good ad. Chasing too many rabbits.

  11. Definitely not “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” level. But it’s harder to do subversive humour when you’re top dog.
