tvOS adds Dark Mode and more

Josh Centers digs into the latest tvOS release. One notable addition:

Those of us blinded by the bright-white look of tvOS 9 will appreciate the new Dark mode, which you can enable in Settings > General > Appearance. Dark mode not only turns the Home screen dark, but also darkens the user interface elements of many apps.

I’ll definitely be switching to Dark Mode.

  1. I want to say definitively that I’ll be switching to dark mode. Overall it looks nice and I prefer it. However, it can be a little too dark at times when it comes to the home screen. I have several apps that have predominantly black icons. The dark mode background makes it very difficult to see the icons and if they have the focus. I believe, or at least hope, that developers will update their icons so that they look good in both modes. Alternatively, Apple could address this by adding some type of subtle highlight in dark mode to show which icon has focus.

  2. Agreed. Dark mode on the jet black, black, or even my space gray iPhone and iPad would look amazing.
