In the middle of Jason Snell’s iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 writeup is this nugget:
One pulled tab and the plastic wrap around the iPhone box unravels. Inside there’s a little paperboard package that features the shockingly tiny Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, pinned like it’s smiling at you, and on the flip side of the same bundle, your Lightning EarPods. It’s adorable, compact, and plastic free.
Follow the link (Jason’s writeups are always worth the trip), check out the image. Just look at that packaging design. And it’s all made out of recyclable cardboard. Apple is the Steph Curry of packaging.
I kinda liked the plastic EarPods case, it offered a good place to store them when not in use. Gonna miss that.
There are problems. It won’t play my American Idiot album that’s been ripped, and in, iTunes Match.
This has been an underestimated part of Apple design. The only exception was Apple Watch last year. Hopefully, this year, they won’t insist on giving you a gaudy bag when you buy the watch.

So Apple is elegant and entertaining, but ultimately not as capable as Amazon, the Lebron James of packaging?
I will miss the plastic case, I actually used it as a day to day storage solution — I don’t use my EarPods all that often.
Steph Curry must be some sports dude, right? Hope he’s as good at what he does as Apple is at what they do. 😉
To me, if you wrote “Steph Curry is the Apple of (name of sport),” I’d find it much more understandable. 🙂
