CVS Health today is launching its own mobile payments solution that will allow customers to pay for products, pick up prescriptions, earn ExtraCare loyalty rewards, as well as pay – just by scanning the barcode in the CVS mobile app. The idea, the company explains, is to eliminate the number of steps it takes today to complete a checkout, which today is a very manual process.
I don’t even know what to say about this. Companies want to keep tabs on their customers, but there are better mobile payment solutions—of course, I’m talking about Apple Pay. I won’t use any company’s app when it comes to payments—support Apple Pay and I’m with you.
tweet, email and complain on their Facebook. I did. there’s no reason not to enable their NFC POS terminals.
I’m a member of the CVS loyalty program, but I leave the card at home. On the rare occasion that I buy anything at CVS, I just tell the cashier “I have a card but I prefer to not use it.” Sometimes they’ll just give me the discount with a store card. Sometimes they don’t.
It’s Apple Pay or cash for me when I buy anything at a brick-and-mortar retail store or restaurant. I avoid any other payment method if possible.
I refuse to use these cheap imitations of an actually better experience as well. If I have to log into your stupid app to use it, then it’s already broken.
Walgreens uses Apple pay
When Target implements ApplePay, as long as the CVS-run pharmacies in Target don’t block me from ApplePay, then I’m going there.
I recently went on a trip that had several attractions. I saved the tickets which had bar codes on them onto my phone and had them accessible in drop box. Not a single ticket station could scan my tickets from the phone. Employees would eventually give up and just let us through.
I bring the CVS card, because their prices aren’t worth going there without it.
Word. CVS is hell-bent on ignoring Apple Pay. Their attempt to create an app will likely go the way of CurrentC. If not it will be hacked in a week and they’ll still be using the slowest possible card chip reader. What a pain CVS!
a pain in the CVS, indeed!
It really sucks for me, has I have to use CVS, because my work insurance says I have to. I would love to be able to use Walgreens, not only for Apple Pay, but it’s closer to me, and our Walgreens is nicer that the CVS.
