Clickbait headlines are exactly why I support independent writers instead of organizations that lower themselves to using such tactics. Usually, clickbait offers nothing more than a tantalizing headline—nothing to backup the reason you clicked on it in the first place. It’s a frustrating practice, but when we become aware of what’s going on, we can support the people, and sites, that treat us, the readers, with respect.
The media responds (predictably) to Facebook’s clickbait policy
My policy is “I see clickbait, I block the site”, on Facebook.
Punishment – by “never clicking” – is the only way to stop them.
Facebook cares a lot more about keeping eyeballs on the site than they do about keeping the work offending clickbaiters happy.
I stopped reading Facebook last year, in part after realizing that so many of the posts of my “friends” were just clickbait.
Some of these comments are great.
My favourite is from Joe Speiser: “There isn’t a publisher out there who hasn’t used sensational headlines to drive clicks.”
Just because you’re an asshole, it doesn’t mean everyone else is too. When you look around for confirmation to prove you’re not an asshole and only keep track of the other assholes, don’t be surprised if your vision becomes skewed. AssholeVision.
Even better than avoiding Facebook clickbait and boring stuff, set your Facebook to “write only” send articles To it. Forget your password, never log in. Maybe about a year ago I stopped gong on, and my phone battery, and emotional health is quite good!
So many people believe the Facebook reality people present,and start getting jealous or depressed, believing the Wrestling Personas that people show.

Do this a few hundred times — and, luckily, the experience of blocking is actually quite pleasurable to me — and Facebook becomes a place of meaningful conversations with friends and top news stories.
It’s a pretty big change.
