On this day 25 years ago the world’s first website went live to the public. The site, created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, was a basic text page with hyperlinked words that connected to other pages.
Berners-Lee used the public launch to outline his plan for the service, which would come to dominate life in the twenty-first century.
Berners-Lee wanted the World Wide Web to be a place where people could share information across the world through documents and links navigated with a simple search function.
Wow. I’ve been doing a podcast for more than 22 years. I didn’t realize I had started so soon after the web went online.
iPod came out in 2001, so while you may have been doing an online streaming audio show, it couldn’t have been a podcast 22 years ago.

When I first read this I thought “what? I’ve been using the Internet for longer than 25 years”. So of course I did some research, but nope, I of course have not.
I guess it’s because I’ve been using computers of some form all my life. Commodore Vic 20, 64, PET, Mac II and so on. It’s amazing to think that just by playing games and reading/studying early code, you know making some figure do jumping jacks after pages of typing and thinking wow that was a lot of work to make that figure move..
Anyway, huh, we’ve come along way in a short time.
I can’t wait to see where we go next. Luckily I’m still young enough to see a whole lot more, especially if it progresses this quickly.
Yeah the internet has been around much longer than the Web.
Sir TBL has now admitted that the first web site was pictures of cats.
How on earth were you doing streaming (or downloaded!) audio in 1994?
We did both. I used RealAudio for the live audio streaming and downloads. I was also one of the first two “podcasts” on Audible.com.
That’s pretty cool when you think about it.
I think so. I was the very first “Mac Broadcaster” on the internet. Amazing that I’m still doing it after 22+ years!
