I found this exchange amusing, especially this Kanye tweet:
I need Tim Cook Jay Z Dez Jimmy Larry me and Drake Scooter on the phone or in a room this week!!!
Is that the way you set up a meeting with Tim Cook? I wonder what Apple makes of this tweet stream.
Money money money. Give it me.
“Is that the way you set up a meeting with Tim Cook?”
Pretty sure that’s how Carl Icahn made it happen 🙂
Well, Carl also spent a few millions on $AAPL to force Cook into paying attention.
I may not agree. You may not agree. But we can’t say on one hand that social media is a multi-faceted communication platform and near-trillion dollar industry, and on the other hand diss people for using it for communication purposes. In short, yes, this is how some deals are started. This is how Taylor Swift got Apple’s attention. If Apple doesn’t think much of this, it is because it’s Kanye. If Beyoncé beckons in a similar manner, I bet Apple would take it seriously.
“Its about the artists”, Tidal have always said, so I cannot see why Apple cannot approach the Artists they want and give them a deal.
Besides the main “exclusive” artists already stream on Apple Music anyway.
Apple can just bide their time, no need to be bullied by Kayne.
Sounds like a petulant brat.
Then again the way Kanye spends money, I’d also be worried where my next payday came from.
Swift’s open letter was 140 characters?
West is the Carl Icahn of the music industry.
I’d made a comparison between those two, then saw you’d done it first.
Kanye West is the Trump of hip hop.
My guess is that Apple’s response will be that “Apple does not negotiate with terrorists.”
Kanye who? Isn’t he one of the Kardashians?
It was millions with a “B”, and I was kidding.
Odd… I didn’t see him as the President, but I guess you are right.
So Apple is now going to pay for a bunch of artists who decided they didn’t like Apple’s terms? Whats to stop them leaving again and starting Tidal #2?
How do the artists feel about being folded back into iTunes after a year or so?
If I was Apple, I would do a deal with the individual Artists that wanted to move on and let Tidal stagnate. Screw em.
Kanye, 6 months ago: “My album will never never never be on Apple.”
Kanye, now: “GIVE ME MONEY, APPLE!”
Kanye West is extremely skilled at keeping his name in the press.
Trump isn’t President either, and, thankfully, a good number of people don’t him as that.
