Microsoft to cut more jobs

Microsoft Corp said it would cut about 2,850 more jobs over the next 12 months, taking its total planned job cuts to up to 4,700, or about 4 percent of its workforce.

I hate seeing people lose their jobs.

  1. People losing jobs always sucks. One thing that I do respect about Microsoft is (generally) they cut people properly. I know a couple who got cuts there and they both said Microsoft was excellent with severance, extending benefits, outplacement support, etc.

  2. I don’t think it matters just how “nice” they are in cutting jobs. That’s way downstream from the company as a whole demonstrating its “lack of soul” over its entire existence. From Gates’ blatant rip off of Apple’s UI, to its horrible Windoze interface, to its veritable enslavement of the common man to have to live with that every work day, to its silly hardware offerings, to Balmer’s arrogance and demonstrated ineptitude; if the remaining hapless Microsoft employees haven’t seen the writing on the wall long ago, it’s their own fault for not predicting these inevitable cuts.

  3. Hate it, too. But seriously: the Nokia guys were already out of a job when Elop delivered the goods to Ballmer (“Bring me the biggest phone company in the world for less than what we paid for Skype!”).

Nokia’s management blew it a decade ago, and without MS they would have been lining up for social benefits even sooner. Ballmer’s megalomania gave them a few more years with full pay for really doing nothing (there has not been a single noteworthy device since the acquisition). And it was quite clear from day one that Nadella will not spend a second on keeping this alive (which, IMHO, speaks for him).

  4. Ballmer’s gone. Apple won. You’re going to have to let it go now. Deep breaths big fella.
