U.S. Army Special Operations Command dumps Android for iPhone

The iPhone is “faster; smoother. Android freezes up” and has to be restarted too often, the source said. The problem with the Android is particularly noticeable when viewing live feed from an unmanned aerial system such as Instant Eye, the source said.

Makes sense that the Army would want the best equipment they can get.

  1. Actually, no. The Army is like a lot of government branches. Cost matters a lot. That’s why they’re all using cheap PCs. But there are some things that matter more than cost. No doubt they already knew that Android was a little worse. They were willing to accept “a little worse” for the cost savings. Then they started trying to use it for real and discovered that “a little worse” ended up being a wider gulf than was acceptable.

  3. Very plausible. This is the way things usually work. No need for the conspiracy theories that people always want to jump to.
