Beginning today, the prices for our Plus and Premium tiers will change for new subscriptions, and access from Evernote Basic accounts will be limited to two devices. Current subscribers and Basic users who are using more than two devices will have some time to adjust before the changes take effect. If you are impacted, look for a message from us in the coming days.
It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any fallout from this.
Onenote is going to pick up a lot of fans. I deleted Evernote from my devices no out of spit but because I want to force myself to learn Onenote a bit better since my household has an Office 365 sub.
I think Evernote’s price increase and crippling of the free tier is premature. They admitted that they lost focus of their core business and swapped out executives but the Evernote product then is essentially the same Evernote product today. You cannot look at Evernote today and say “Yup they’ve really turned the ship around” yet here they are asking for a large price hike with the carrot of “future improvements”. Excuse me if I don’t believe the hype. People have been asking for Encryption features, markdown and proper code display (bonus for syntax color) for years and got nothing back from Evernote.
For 70$ a year Evernote 7 better give people what they want in spades. The rest of the market has caught up. Sync is embedded into most modern OS and their Dropbox, Box and a bushel of other sync services. Evernote is going survive or drown based on how they can re-invision what note-taking should be like and have their vision resonate with fans and new users alike.
I am moving all my stuff to Notes on iCloud.
I was a on a Premium tier. I am migrating to OneNote for advanced notes and Apple Notes for casual notes.
A free tip to Evernote. Next time, roll out pricing change with major feature update.
Moved to Notes.app as soon as I could, but when I got the email from Evernote I decided to check my preferences. Turns out it listed five devices that I no longer have. I deleted them from the list just to stop getting emails from them. So check your device list if you’ve been using Evernote for a while.
That’s what I and my co-workers all did. Now with collaboration coming up in iOS10/Sierra, I don’t really see the point of Evernote.
If they’re making multi-device sync a paid feature, does that mean they’re actually going to make it work? I get almost weekly sync conflicts with Evernote. I think I should be looking into alternatives, but for my uses I’d need IFTTT integration, an Apple Watch app, sharing with others, and the ability to import the 4,500 notes I have in Evernote.
The only thing I miss is the color scheme.
I’m not sure what advantage or new features I’ll be getting for a 35% increase in subscription price. :-/
Are there any services other than Evernote or OneNote that offer automatic image/PDF OCR?
I don’t begrudge Evernote the ability to charge whatever it wants to for its service. But maybe that’s because I’ve never paid them. I was the kind of user they could never convert.
I feel like a lot of developers/companies just overestimate the value of their app to users, and that becomes the central problem. If Evernote were charging 1 or 2 bucks a month, I’d probably sign up without blinking. But they value their own app much more highly than I do, so I’m off to one of the many, many alternatives (Apple’s Notes.app makes it super easy to import all your notes.)
If the new subscription model for apps in iOS pans out as people think it will, we could be seeing a lot more of this. There are a ton of apps that might be worth a few bucks a year for me, but they’re certainly not worth five bucks a month. I think developers should be very, very careful about their pricing models in this brave new world of subscriptions.
