Machine intelligence, however fast or powerful, is NOT human intelligence. A machine will NEVER “get an idea.” It can only react to whatever stimulus it senses. That makes it tied to the past and never capable of predicting the future—unless we (very stupidly and apathetically) relegate our own control to them.
I think that if some process CAN be successfully automated, then they probably SHOULD be, such as truck driving. After all, why should trucking companies have to kow tow to all this socialist crap going on of unions, wage regulations, benefits, healthcare, etc. when they can have machines to a much better job of driving 24/7?
What seems to go missing on those who complain about job losses to machines is that there’s always opportunities for humans to learn computer technology and create/get jobs building, controlling, and maintaining the machines. All it takes is education.
Everyone that loves the idea of autonomous driving never hit a animal before when the jump right out at you!
