I know the Apple Maps page says it will show notifications of construction and accidents, but this is the first time I’ve personal seen an accident shown in Maps. It happened once and I haven’t seen one again, even though Google Maps will show accidents along my route.
I’ve seen the red marks, I think, but not the callout. Did you have to tap the accident to get that?
I got a spoken notification the other day while navigating (something along the lines of “There’s an accident reported ahead at…”), which was a first for me.
I have been getting accident and construction markers like that for quite a while in the Detroit area. When you click on it, you get a description and time and which lane is blocked.
Seen accident data for years now… although for a while nothing showed up… they used to get the data from Waze but I assumed they cut off the integration a while after Google bought it.
I’ve gotten spoken notifications and red/orange banners during navigation, on the highway, outside Chicago, for a long time. (Months? A year?)
I’ve gotten a notifications of accidents ahead, coupled with rerouting, two or three times in 2016. I am typically in the Philadelphia and Central New Jersey areas. I would love to see Apple provide more info and guidance of this nature.
Yes, you tap on it and it gives you the details. Tapping into it also gives the time of the report.
I’d love to know their sources of the data for the accidents and construction. It’s one of the few reasons I use Waze on longer trips.
Can’t stand Google Maps for this very reason. They use Waze data so one accident shows as 5+ on Google maps. L.A always looks like a war zone because of this.
I see those notifications, but on my CarPlay interface (VW MIB-II, nice touchscreen) Maps doesn’t give more info on a tap. Maybe the tap target is too small, or maybe the extra info is not supported on CarPlay…

Yesterday was the first time that I got a Siri warning when I was using maps for directions that there was congestion or an accident it suggested an alternate route.
Weird. I’ve seen incident reports on Apple Maps since it launched. And its always been very accurate. Sometimes more so than Google Maps. Google Maps will sometimes show the incident after it has already cleared up, while it will disappear on Apple Maps.
I guess Apple Maps just has better data in FL. I also have never had issues with the actual data within the map.
