Although this news may feel sudden to some, this transition has been in progress since late last year and while I won’t be present day to day at Nest, I’ll remain involved in my new capacity as an advisor to Alphabet and Larry Page. This will give me the time and flexibility to pursue new opportunities to create and disrupt other industries – and to support others who want to do the same – just as we’ve done at Nest. We should all be disrupters!
You could see this coming.
I am sure there are not too many tears being shed at Nest.
Senator Fadell also said he was resigning to spend more time with his family.
Fadells biggest mistake was selling to Google, he talks about being keeper of the flame like Jobs & Gates yet sold out as quickly as he could.
“Although this news may feel sudden to some…” If it does, you haven’t been paying attention.
A person, universally hated by his staff, and with impressive achievements (inventor of an overpriced thermostat and an unsafe smoke detector, no less) being promoted to a position where he can do no harm, comparing himself to Jobs and Campbell (because, you know, no one else does)… Is he lining up to become VP under Trump, or the truly first lady?
Someone should really dig into the claim chowder on this 1. Back when Nest was acquired by Google a lot of really stupid stuff was written about it. Here’s just 1 example “Buying Nest doesn’t bring Ive to Google. But Fadell might be an even better catch.” from http://www.wired.com/2014/01/googles-3-billion-nest-buy-finally-make-internet-things-real-us/
Right? The tech press, like the press in general, is not afraid of hyperbole.
TF is uncommonly talented, but not even the most talented always makes a good leader.
at least we are not able to blame Tony for the sucktacular “update” to Disk Utility in 10.11. We did not hoze Apple Music… yet Fadell did so much better when he was under the Apple fold. He may have some talents, yet running a large “tech” company was never it.
