Find your phone is a new feature that will help you if your phone is ever lost or stolen. In a few simple steps, you can not only locate your phone, but also lock and call it, secure your account, leave a callback number on the screen, and more. The feature can be used to find lost Android and iOS devices, and soon, you’ll also be able to access it by searching Google for “I lost my phone.”
Google adds “Find your phone” feature
Welcome to 2010 Android users.
The feature existed in Android alone for a while, the difference is that it has both iOS and Android support.
Cynically, this seems more like a reason to get people to provide Google with their real time locations rather than a nice feature. If it was about the feature itself this probably would have been done a long time ago. It will be interesting to see if new location data products or services evolve from this.
So… a re-branding of Android Device Manager?
100% certain this is the reason.
I remember when you had to JB and use /maybe dodgy/ third party cydia stuff, it worked though..
The whole reason I bought iPad the first with SIM was the GPS and tracking abilities too, and all my macs have find my Mac and a backup backblaze tool as well in case. Any thieves will have a bad time with my kit!
