European Union governments should not ban services like home-rental site Airbnb or ride-hailing app Uber except as a last resort, the EU says in new guidelines, seeking to rein in a crackdown on the “sharing economy”.
Sharing services have faced an uphill battle in many countries, so it will be interesting to see how governments take these recommendations.
I think these services can be great. I’ve used AirBnB a couple times and it was a great experience.
However: they need to be regulated and strongly. Uber pretending to be nothing more than a ride sharing service is ridiculous bordering on insulting.
Germany has strict regulations for transport services that protect everybody involved in case of accidents and disputes. Uber aims to avoid any kind of responsibility while at the same time having being a de facto transport company and they spin this as being disruptive.
Arguably, many countries and cities have faced an uphill battle regulating sharing services.
This is disruptive. Uber spins it as disruption that’s good for society. The distinction is oh so significant.
Indeed.
I guess Uber and Airbnb are doing a good job greasing the pockets of the EU officials… what happened to government bodies protecting citizens?? lol what a joke…
