There are a lot of Jazz albums that I really like—I’m a big Chet Baker fan, but I’m not a fan of the crazy, all over the place Jazz. This morning I got this new album of classic Rock songs done in Jazz–it’s amazing! Tony Miceli, Paul Jost, Kevin MacConnell, and Charlie Patierno do an incredible job with these songs.
“Walk this Way,” “Kashmir,” and other classics done in Jazz
Jim, do you have a favorite Chet Baker album you would recommend for an introduction to his music?
For those who like to see modern tunes redone in older styles, I would recommend searching the iTunes Store / Apple Music for “Postmodern Jukebox.”
Hi Jim — Thanks so much for writing about our band, The Jost Project. I’m their manager and it’s great to read your response about our album, “Can’t Find My Way Home.” Their interpretations of these classics seem to surprise people all the time like “In a Gadda Da Vida!” People just smile. Thank you, again, Sharla
Chet Baker is jazz for people who think they won’t like jazz before actually listening to it. Great stuff.
My all-time favorite band happens to be a jazz septet. While a lot of jazz bands quote familiar standards during solos, these gentlemen remix almost the entire 20th century.
Lovely work. My compliments to the band.
My sister saw Jost live a few months ago and turned me on to this album, I love it as well. A really interesting take and a lot of old favorites.
