As usual, John cuts to the heart of the matter. They need to clearly separate streaming from local music, ideally in two apps. While I get that iTunes is central to a lot of things and so teasing it apart into purpose built apps will be risky and hard, it really needs to be done. I thought the were moving this way when they released iBooks and moved book management there, but… no. Not yet at least.
Personally, I love that they are in one place – maybe they can do a better job of identifying or breaking down what is on the device and what would be streamed. Beyond that – I really dislike the idea of a segregated music system. That I would be in one app to listen to something ON my phone, then need to exit that app and go to another one just to listen to another album I forgot to copy over. That’s silly when right now, I can just save it to my device in the same app.
