Time:
Think of the gear you can’t live without: The smartphone you constantly check. The camera that goes with you on every vacation. The TV that serves as a portal to binge-watching and -gaming. Each owes its influence to one model that changed the course of technology for good.
It’s those devices we’re recognizing in this list of the 50 most influential gadgets of all time.
These lists are always fun/interesting and congratulations to Apple for having the iPhone named as #1 but, is it just me or does anyone think of the iPhone as most certainly not a “gadget”?
Apparently “All Time” pretty much began in the 1970’s.
I’d argue that there were a few gadgets that were a wee bit more influential:
The compass
the sextant
John Harrison’s “Sea Clock” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrison
All of which combined to allow us to navigate reliably across oceans..
the abacus
the slide rule
and going even farther back, a little gadget known as a the knapped flint points.
A little more important that the iPhone or the Commodore 64, and certainly more important that Google Glasses…
This isn’t even a good clickbait article, more of a clickhate article.
The lever. The pulley. The wheel.
I think it was only a week or so ago on The Talk Show that Gruber (or his guest) referred to the iPhone as a “gadget sized computer”.
Seems right.
