pricey.
ya, too pricey for a dedicated device.
Very pricey, but if you were planning on getting a Voyage and the “Premium Leather Cover”, there’s only a $5 difference, or a $30 difference with the regular leather cover.
Of course, the Voyage is already a pricey e-reader, and an Oasis without a cover is not an option. Still, for some, this isn’t a big step up from the Voyage.
I know of at least one Apple-hater who writes a column for Windows enthusiasts who’ll love this, if only on principle.
I bought my wife an iPad Pro for Christmas. She loved it. Her birthday is coming up at the end of the month and her Kindle is slowly dying.
Hmmmmm.

Call me when they hit 600 ppi with color e-ink. Until then, anyone buying more than a Paperwhite is just wasting their money. Backlighting should be used as a last resort – for normal reading you should have it completely off and be controlling your lighting, just like you would with regular books. Repackaging the same screen with yet another revamped form factor and some added gizmos for nearly 3x the price is just insulting.
Hell, I love my entire Apple ecosystem, and run Windows too, and think I might get one of these at some point to replace my existing previous-gen Paperwhite.
Sure, it’s an expensive singletasker, but if you read a lot and don’t want to buy physical books, it’s compelling.
(Reminded by that, but off the main topic –
I just recently bought a Surface Pro 4 (i7, 16G, 256G flash).
Apple didn’t get my money because they don’t sell an OSX device with a touchscreen; if the RMBP was available with a touch screen I’d have spent the $1,700 on that instead.
The Surface is compelling if you don’t need OSX, and as much as I like OSX, I don’t need it.)
