There are signs that Gibson’s move to diversify isn’t working out as planned. Moody’s Investor Service has downgraded Gibson Brands (formerly Gibson Guitar Corporation) credit to junk status, and according to reports, the company has put up two of its Nashville warehouses for sale as a result.
Gibson has been in trouble for a long time. I’m not sure if they tried to buy their way out of it or tried to ignore it, but either way, it seems to be getting worse.
Good luck to Gibson. Always great to hear songs played on the Les Paul, especially as recorded by Les Paul himself.
Having said that, I’ve always been a Fender bass guy. Still have a ’72 Jazz Bass that my parents got for me used. Re-fretted it about 10 or 12 years ago, and it plays and sounds like a brand new axe, but with a patina.
Interesting. Our local music store is running a “Gibson Month” this month; I wonder if they got a sweeter deal than usual.
I think it’s time for The Beard to take the helm of Gibson and right the ship. Of course it might take a coupla months of explaining your accent is Canadian and that you aren’t from Azerbaijan (or some place equally exotic), but they’ll catch on.
