AnyList is a free, universal grocery shopping app offering a built-in database of items for creating multiple lists. Start typing the name of an item, and the app autocompletes each entry to speed up the process. You can even add items by voice with Siri, thanks to a clever feature that checks Reminders for new items at launch, then removes them once imported.
AnyList also stores entire recipes, either manually entered or copied and pasted from websites or email. With a single tap, all required ingredients are added to a shopping list, or the complete recipe can be printed or shared via email.
I’m a huge fan of AnyList, having used it for over a year. It’s great for keeping track of groceries and its recipe integration works really well as does the ability to share shopping lists with others in the family.
Have you used Paprika? It comes at things from the recipe side (you can give it a URL and it parses the page for recipes which you can then save) but it also can generate a grocery list.
I have not. AnyList seems to do everything I need it to do.
How do you get recipes in it? Or is that something you do? Paprika’s useful since you can tell it to put the ingredients for Recipe X on the grocery list but at the same time t here’s stuff I buy that’s not recipe driven.
As the AnyList site says:
“Search for recipes on the web, and import them directly into AnyList. On iOS, import recipes directly from Safari with our action extension. On Mac, import recipes with our desktop browser extensions.” The extension works on about 90% of the sites I visit. Otherwise, I cut and past into the app.
As to your second point, AnyList does that too.
I use AnyList for a lot of different purposes, but one of the best is traveling. Just put down everything you need (various devices and their respective chargers, toiletries, adjust thermostat, check all your doors, etc) and mark them off as you pack them. When it comes time to come home, just unmark everything and start checking them off as you pack them up again. Perfect way to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything.
