I highly doubt that anything good will come of being sold to a private equity shop. Their MO is to extract as much money as possible out of their investments and then GTFO.
Someone on Macintouch explained that Quicken’s fate in the hands of its new owners depends in part on the purchase price. But not all such acquisitions end in a dismantled company. If its new owners see a growing Mac market as a potential source of steady revenue, they may choose to continue the software’s commercial life.
I hope that description isn’t merely wishful thinking.
I moved on from Quicken a long time ago and will never look back. As soon as I can get something like Personal Finance or Mint to fully automate watching my accounts, I’ll dump my iBank, too. I spend way too much time in that program poring over the minor details like I’m Scrooge McDuck counting and stacking my coins. It’s craziness, and I’m so ready to be done with it.
