Apple’s big fight with the Federal Bureau of Investigation could have been avoided if one government employee had kept his hands off the phone.
According to a senior Apple executive, the company has been working with the federal government since early January to try to provide a way to access the San Bernardino county-issued iPhone connected with Syed Farook, the gunman in the massacre.
The problem, according to Apple, is that the company was called too late.
That’s because the phone was apparently erased of any chance to access its data only an hour after the device came into government custody. An unnamed person in the San Bernardino County government — likely an information technology employee — reset the Apple ID associated with the iPhone 5C in an attempt to access the data.
This comedy of errors would be funny if the stakes weren’t so high.
I don’t think there’s a facepalm meme picture to do this justice.

What I read in other stories, Apple never claimed that San Bernardino County screwed up. This is more Mr. King making up his own headlines. I really would love to filter out his postings as they generally suck and totally take away the charme of the blog…
Hmm.. The headline came from an article by Christina Warren and has nothing to do with “Mr. King”. It’ll take just a second to click it to know where it comes from.
Yeah but it’s easier and more fun to be insulting to me than it is to deal with those inconvenient little things like facts.
I apologise for making this overly personal and not taking the time to realise that the headline wasn’t yours. I guess my frustration is that I really love to check in on the loop almost daily and can’t help noticing seeing less from Jim and more from Mark and now you. With this headline I couldn’t hold back and had to out myself than I not a big fan or your postings. I get it that you didn’t came up with the headline or story yourself. By the time you published this on the loop, it was however already clear that the headline was wrong. Apple neither claimed this nor was the claim itself correct, as clarified the evening before by SB County. Making notice of that would have made this re-posting valuable and news-worthy. For me it was just one of those bad posting taking out the charm I appreciate from the loop. Sorry for making this personal as I’m sure others might love your stuff . I’m just not of them. My problem, not yours..
