You intentionally grab a café table next to the window on overcast days and you’re a pro at tinkering with your eggy photos on VSCO, but have you ever gone on a professional photoshoot with just your iPhone?
Imagine the surprise the photographers we worked with on our March Culture Issue experienced when they got the call saying they’d have to ditch their DSLRs and tethers for the hippest pocket camera around. We spoke with the photographers who made the issue happen and found out what they think of a print magazine going full-on Instagram for an issue.
How freaked out were the photographers when they heard about this? Imagine your boss telling you that you had to use “inferior” tools to get your job done. It’s an interesting experiment.

Seriously though, the iPhone camera is truly getting scary good, I get folks constantly commenting on my Instagram photos and asking what camera I used – well I’m mostly an Instagram purist and it’s nearly always my iPhone. Here’s the hilarious part – even when I look at my own Instagram account I realise the images look like they were shot on a ‘big’ camera.
Who knows what the iPhone camera will be like in a few short years, I have heard Apple are sinking more money into image R&D than some of the major camera companies, this would not surprise me.
My response would of been, “Cool, sounds like fun” Then again I had to shoot a cover story with my company supplied iPhone 5S when the camera I grabbed died on me after a couple of shots.

Apple lives in parallel universes.
In one of them people do insanely great things with their products. In the other their stock tanks and it’s all doom.
It’s a shame analysts aren’t the creative type. If they could see what joy and creativity Apple brings the stock would soar.
