Apple reports $18.4 billion profit for first quarter

Apple on Tuesday announced record quarterly revenue of $75.9 billion and record quarterly net income of $18.4 billion.

“Our team delivered Apple’s biggest quarter ever, thanks to the world’s most innovative products and all-time record sales of iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The growth of our Services business accelerated during the quarter to produce record results, and our installed base recently crossed a major milestone of one billion active devices.”

Apple sold 74.7 million iPhones in the first quarter, compared to 74.4 in the same quarter last year. The company sold 16.1 million iPads, down from the 21.4 sold in the same quarter last year, and they sold 5.3 million Macs, down slightly from the 5.5 million sold this time last year.

Apple said that International sales accounted for 66 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

    1. Apple made a shit load of money. They have $160 billion in cash and have returned $153 billion to shareholders.
    2. iPhone sales have flattened globally. They’ve taken share from Android and even the iPads but now it’s a mature market. Growth markets are currently impossible to forecast.
    3. Macs and iPads are taking a bigger share of the declining PC market. iPads alone account for 1/3 of the world’s laptop market.

When I bought my Bondi Blue iMac G3 I never thought that Apple would be making a $18.4 billion profit for a quarter. It’s a different company and a different world now.

I love my Apple products more than ever but I now think about them think about them differently.
